Interior Department staff Monday had no information on when a hiring freeze impacting seasonal and full-time positions at the National Park Service will be lifted.

While some members of the U.S. House of Representatives have raised the possibility of selling public lands to help offset the costs of President Trump's agenda, legislation that would block the Interior and Agriculture departments from disposing of any lands has been introduced to that chamber.

More than 1,000 seasonal positions for the National Park Service have been put on hold by the Trump administration, which is notifying those told they had jobs that the offers they received have been withdrawn.

There is a shrinking potential to increase the amount of official wilderness in the country. The possibilities are waning because of federal agency decisions and congressional opposition or indifference.
