Blue Ridge Parkway Detour Around Laurel Fork Bridge Project

Work has begun on a $29 million project to replace the Laurel Fork Bridge on the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 248.8 in Ashe County, North Carolina. A full park closure to all uses in the immediate vicinity of the bridge is expected to be in place this week. Work is expected to take over two years to complete, with a target completion date of November 2024.

Washington National Monument in Virginia is scheduled to present Juneteenth 2022 on Saturday, June 18, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Juneteenth, short for June nineteenth, has long served as a celebration date for the effective end of slavery in the United States. The date became a federal holiday in 2021.
