Lightning from a thunderstorm overnight ignited a wildfire in the Sage Creek area of Badlands National Park. The Sage Creek area is accessed via a dirt and gravel road approximately one-half mile (0.8 km) south of the Pinnacles Entrance. The landscape all around there is mixed-grass prairie prone to ignition due to the dry summer.

It wasn’t too long ago Grand Canyon National Park implemented water conservation measures due to a pump failure at Havasupai Gardens. Now, there’s a new break in the Transcanyon Waterline creating new water restrictions and conservation measures on both South and North Rims.

Staff at Grand Canyon National Park is seeing the public’s help in locating 8-year-old Canyon Hartley. He was last seen at midnight, August 22, 2024, at site 151, Juniper Loop of Mather Campground on the South Rim.

Thirteen species of bats (including three listed on the federal endangered species list) call Mammoth Cave National Park home. So, it’s fitting the park celebrates its favorite flying creatures of the night during the annual Bat Night, this August 31 (Saturday).
