The Big Thicket National Preserve is often called a "Biological Crossroads of North America," and a key component of the Thicket is the longleaf pine. Many of those trees were lost to logging and other human activity prior to the park's establishment, but a recent volunteer effort is helping in a comeback by the trees.

There's good news and bad news from Capitol Reef National Park. The good news is that they're going to repair the entire 8-mile-long Scenic Drive that heads south from the visitor center. The bad news is that it could lead to delays of up to 30 minutes from now into July.

Some temporary trail closures have been implemented at Big Bend National Park to give nesting peregrine falcons some peace and quiet.

Though the annual wildflower festival at Cedar Breaks National Monument is months away, officials are searching for a poster design to promote this year's festival.
