National Park Service leaders along with representatives from the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, numerous statewide and regional partners in land conservation, and other local leaders marked National Public Lands Day by celebrating ongoing conservation efforts protecting the Blue Ridge Parkway at and around Waterrock Knob.

A small seismic swarm of over 38 earthquakes is ongoing beneath the summit of Mauna Loa volcano in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

Easily one of the most identifiable desert icons, the desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) is celebrated October 3-7, 2022 at Joshua Tree National Park and other desert conservation organizations, as well as in schools across the desert southwest.

The House Committee on Natural Resources announced House passage of several Natural Resources bills under suspension of the rules, a procedure the House of Representatives often uses on the floor to expedite legislation. These particular bills designate sites which will be units of the National Park System.
