We had left sunset behind us in the New Mexico village of Cuba and headed up into the Santa Fe National Forest when the cat crossed our path. The splash of the pickup's headlights briefly illuminated the long and sinuous body, with a tail to match, before the mountain lion vanished into the ponderosa pine forest.

Jasper National Park Provides 2022 Bear Update

As snow settles in for winter, so do bears across Jasper National Park. Parks Canada saw frequent bear activity in the Municipality of Jasper in 2022, with about a dozen bears drawn to town by attractants in yards and non-native fruit trees.

At an 8th District Court (NV) hearing in July 2022, Nicholas Ryan Floyd was ordered to serve 20-55 years in prison, with earliest parole possibility in 2042. This outcome was the result of the bravery of the young survivor of Floyd's crimes, and a determined investigation by Special Agents of the NPS Investigative Services Branch.
