Secretary-General Antonio Guterres decried the “utterly inadequate” global response to the crisis so far. He warned that the “point of no return is no longer over the horizon” but that “It is in sight and hurtling toward us.” Nowhere are the consequences more visibly “hurtling,” and landing, than in Alaska. And in the northern state’s national parks and preserves, that means growing pressures on the very resources the National Park Service is charged with protecting.

NPS Considering Infrastructure Upgrades At Kantishna In Denali National Park

Roadside campgrounds, backcountry campsites, "rustic" lodging, transportation infrastructure and more are being considered by the National Park Service for the Kantishna and Wonder Lake areas of Denali National Park in Alaska. Though the planning comes as visitation to Denali continues to grow, it coincides with the Park Service being hamstrung by a staggering maintenance backlog that could stand in the way of the project.
