Audubon Identifies Area Around Canyonlands National Park As "Globally Important Bird Area"

Though located in the arid landscape of the Colorado Plateau, the area around Canyonlands National Park attracts a lot of birds and provides valuable habitat for species such as the Mexican spotted owl. As such, the area has been identified as a "Globally Important Bird Area" by the National Audubon Society

Last week we took a look at the evolution of dining in the National Park System, and one of the items mentioned was a blackened ahi dish from the Rainbow Room at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Battle To Keep Lake Powell Free of Quagga Mussels Continues At Glen Canyon National Recreation Area

The battle to prevent quagga mussels from establishing a reproducing population in Lake Powell continued earlier this month with an intensive four-day search and destroy dive operation at the two major marinas on the lower end of the lake. Based on the results, officials at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area are optimistic the huge lake can still be kept free of an infestation.

These are some of the entrées you can find in national parks these days, and they’re not the result of the National Park Service’s Healthy Parks, Healthy People initiative and its food guidelines for concessionaires.
