Grand Canyon National Park rangers are trying to determine the cause of a fall that killed a young Phoenix man near the bottom of the South Kaibab Trail.

Leave it as It Is is the most engaging and powerful book about Western public lands that I have read in a long time. Gessner published a terrific book in 2015 titled All the Wild That Remains: Edward Abbey, Wallace Stegner, and the American West, and I find some Abbey and Stegner in this new book, both in style and content. He traveled the West in search of Abbey and Stegner in that book as he does with Teddy Roosevelt in this one. He looks at all these icons in the context of the modern West with a clear and analytical eye.

With the months turning quickly on the calendar, it won't be long before the snow flies in higher elevations. With that in mind, Grand Canyon National Park officials have announced that facilities on the North Rim will begin day-use operations on October 19. On that date, the Grand Canyon Lodge will close and no overnight accommodations, including camping, will be available to visitors

An agreement has been reached to allow the Arizona Game and Fish Commission to work with the National Park Service to cull the number of bison on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.
