Jewel Cave Officially Stretches At Least 200 Miles

Cave explorers recently mapped the 200th mile in Jewel Cave National Monument in the Black Hills of South Dakota. A team of six volunteer cavers entered the cave on Saturday, December 15, and surveyed 3,338.75 feet of passages. They reached the milestone moment on Sunday, briefly posing for a photo of the accomplishment.

Jewel Cave Winter Cave Closure

Jewel Cave National Monument in South Dakota will temporarily shut down guided cave tours from mid-October until about April 2019 to make necessary improvements along the popular Scenic Tour route. The visitor center, park store, and surface trails will remain open during the closure.

A Good Drive Through The Badlands

They had me surrounded at the border. The border of Wind Cave National Park and Custer State Park, that is. And “they” were a dusty herd of bison, moving from one lush meadow of grass to another, with their skittish young in tow.
