It takes seemingly little cold to stun a sea turtle. For humans, 50 degrees is chilly, but for the thousands of sea turtles that were stunned along the Gulf Coast of Texas the past two weeks, it can be deadly.

Texas Cold Snap Leads To Catastrophic Stunning Of Sea Turtles

More than 11,000 sea turtles have been stunned, and an undetermined number killed, by the recent cold snap that plunged through Texas like an icy dagger. Biologists and wildlife technicians, including some from Padre Island National Seashore on the Gulf Coast, have been working to save as many as possible.

Covid Dropped 2020 National Park Visits Down By Nearly A Third, To 237 Million

The coronavirus pandemic that began to sweep across the United States a year ago greatly impacted 2020 visits to the National Park System, as the tally of 237 million was down by nearly a third from 2019 visitation, the National Park Service announced Thursday.
