New Paper Supports Continued Incubation Of Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtles At Padre Island National Seashore

Kemp's ridley sea turtles, the most endangered sea turtles in the world that are far from reaching population numbers to downlist them under the Endangered Species Act, would benefit from continued incubation of hatchling eggs at Padre Island National Seashore, according to a new paper.

UPDATE | Preparing For The Unexpected Across The National Park System

Though Hurricane Beryl was roughly 1,200 nautical miles from Padre Island National Seashore on Tuesday, crews already were out on the barrier island's beaches searching for Kemp's ridley sea turtle nests. Any that were found were recorded with a GPS location so, in the event the hurricane took a hard swipe at the national seashore, the nests could be relocated after the storm.
