Photographer Rebecca Latson recently completed a 3-week road trip and move from southeast Texas up to central Washington State. During that time, she visited five national parks. In those parks, she saw some pretty stupid stuff such as litter, people driving faster than the posted speed limit, and poor choices in hiking footwear, to name a few things. Rebecca wrote an article of her observations, which are a good reminder for us all to do some planning and be a little more thoughtful of how we treat our national parks as guests.

Petrified Forest National Park Becomes World’s Newest International Dark Sky Park

If you live on either coast, it can be hard to truly appreciate night skies devoid of artificial light that blots out the stars overhead. That's what makes places such as Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona so important and so interesting. The lack of artificial light at this park has led the International Dark Sky-Park Association to designate Petrified Forest as an International Dark Sky Park.

Man Fined $1,000 For Illegal Possession Of Wildlife, Taking Petrified Wood From Petrified Forest National Park

A North Carolina man with a hankering for wildlife and petrified wood has been fined $1,000 after rangers at Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona found 35 pounds of petrified wood and a trash bag with wings of birds protected by the Migratory Bird Act in his vehicle.
