Giant Forest At Sequoia National Park Reopens To Public

The Giant Forest area of Sequoia National Park, home to the General Sherman Tree, the largest tree in the world (by volume), reopened to the public on Friday. The area closed in early March in advance of what would become a catastrophic series of storms. Those storms left behind severe road and infrastructure damage that continues to impact public access.

Recovering From Winter Will Delay Some Access At Sequoia, Kings Canyon National Parks

Access to some of the most popular destinations in Kings Canyon and Sequoia national parks will be delayed this spring, and in the case of Kings Canyon won't be possible this year, as crews continue to clean up and repair damage caused by winter's numerous storms.

National Park Service Grappling With Hazard Trees At Kings Canyon, Sequoia National Parks

Threats to visitors and park infrastructure posed by 12,000-15,000 "hazard trees" burned during the massive KNP Complex fire of 2021 at Kings Canyon and Sequoia national parks but still standing has the National Park Service formulating a plan to deal with them. The agency's preference is to remove tree hazards along roadways and the parks' developed areas within the fire's burn perimeter and then treat fallen debris around infrastructure and within up to 80 feet from the edge of roadways.
