A review of accident reports from 54 national parks points to falls as the leading cause of death in those parks, with Yosemite and Grand Canyon national parks ranked one and two for falling fatalities. When all causes of death are counted, Grand Canyon comes out ahead in terms of fatalities recorded in the parks since 2010.

A stay-at-home order issued in California in a bid to slow the spread of Covid-19 has led to the closure of some campgrounds and overnight stays in national parks in the state.

Some years ago, 2007 to be exact, President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush honored the National Park Service by making national parks the theme for the White House holiday decorations. That decision spurred an outpouring of artistic talent from around the park system. Unfortunately, those sparkling ornaments were not for sale. This year, though, the Sequoia Parks Conservancy is offering a holiday ornament in celebration of Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks.

With a wildfire bearing down on Sequoia National Park, a decision was made to protect the park's 130-year archival history by moving it to the University of California, Merced, for safekeeping.
