Angels Landing And Portion Of West Rim Trail At Zion National Park Closed October 23-25

The two evaporative toilets at Scout Lookout in Zion National Park in Utah are being replaced with a new four-stall facility. In preparation, park staff will be emptying and removing the existing toilets October 23-25. The operation requires the use of a helicopter, so safety precautions in the form of trail and road closures will be in effect. On all three days of the operation, Angels Landing and the West Rim Trail will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. between the Grotto Trailhead and the patio just above Scout Lookout.

Groups Work To Purchase 35-Acre Inholding At Zion National Park

In a park that covers nearly 150,000 acres, 35 acres almost seems like an afterthought. But the 35 acres that the Trust for Public Land was able to buy with help from the National Park Foundation and others represented only the latest effort to acquire privately owned land inside Zion National Park.

Access Issue For The Narrows At Zion National Park Temporarily Resolved

UPDATE: Iconic Zion Narrows Backcountry Trek Shut Down At Zion National Park

If there's an iconic backcountry trip at Zion National Park that lures visitors from around the world, it's the 16-mile hike through the Zion Narrows. On Tuesday, however, that trek was put out of reach when a private landowner closed his property as an access point to the Narrows.

Fall Spectacular: Fall Colors From a National Park Lodge

A disadvantage of living in South Georgia is the scarcity of fall colors as the days grow cooler and the nights become longer. The glorious reds, bright yellows, and vivid oranges produced by oaks, maples, cottonwoods, sumac, and other broadleaved trees and shrubs are in short supply where we live. Having both grown up in the Midwest, we miss the changing of the colors during the fall seasons.

Key Road At Zion National Park To Close For Emergency Repairs

The Zion-Mount Carmel Highway through Zion National Park, connecting State Route 9 between Springdale and Mt. Carmel Junction, will temporarily close next Wednesday and Thursday, September 5 and 6, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. for emergency repairs to the asphalt roadway and historic road guard walls.

A rockfall along the Hidden Canyon Trail in Zion National Park on Tuesday temporarily stranded nine hikers, who a bit later were hauled out of the canyon by helicopter.

UPDATE: Utah Man Subject Of Search-And-Rescue At Zion National Park

Searchers on Wednesday found a body believed to be that of a missing hiker at the end of Deertrap Mountain Trail in Zion National Park. The backpack and clothing description match that of missing hiker, 47-year-old Maurice Harris of Utah, a park release said.

Bighorn Sheep In Zion National Park Come Down With Pneumonia

If you see coughing bighorn sheep during your visit to Zion National Park, please let the park biologists know. While some minor coughing is natural, excessive coughing is a symptom of bacterial pneumonia, a disease that can cause significant concern for populations of bighorn sheep.
