Walking with George

When people ask me about visiting a national park, especially one of the historic sites, I usually recommend starting with the visitor center. But I will make an exception today. When you go to George Washington Carver National Monument in rural southwestern Missouri, start with the nature trail.

Magnolia Plantation At Cane River Creole National Historical Park To Reopen

Cane River Creole National Historical Park will reopen the Magnolia Plantation on Saturday following an almost six-month closure due to road repair work. The Magnolia Plantation grounds and outbuildings will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Park staff will conduct tours of the grounds Wednesday through Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Visitor Center For Stonewall National Monument Will Celebrate LGBTQ+ History

On the wet January day that I met National Park rangers Julie Burna and Callie Tominsky in Greenwich Village to talk about the first U.S. national monument dedicated to LGBTQ+ rights and history, we ducked into a coffeeshop to escape the drizzle and the relentless din of New York traffic.
