The National Park Service says more than 65 miles of the historic Blue Ridge Parkway, between Milepost 359 and 469, will be resurfaced as part of a pavement preservation program. Work is expected to start in mid-May and continue through September of 2018.

Each year, more than 250,000 visitors make a stop at Moses H. Cone Memorial Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Blowing Rock, North Carolina. They stroll the nearly 25 miles of carriage trails on the 3,500-acre estate, travel back in time with a ranger-led tour of Flat Top Manor, or simply sit on the porch and enjoy the view of Bass Lake in the distance below. And while they might notice construction, they probably don't know who's paying for it.

When winter's snows melt away, and spring flowers start to rise across the Blue Ridge Parkway, sometimes a lot of downed limbs and trash appears, too. With that in mind, Blue Ridge Parkway officials are looking for some volunteers to help with a "Campground Cleanup" on April 21, a Saturday.
