House Appropriations Bill Slashes Interior, National Park Service Funding

A spending bill designed to "rightsize" federal agency spending that was approved by the House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday would cut the National Park Service's upcoming budget by 12.5 percent, resulting in the loss of more than 1,000 park staff and reduce the agency's maintenance and historic preservation funding, according to the National Parks Conservation Association.

Parks Canada fire management crews continue to monitor the Uto Wildfire in Glacier National Park in British Columbia by helicopter and are using a remote camera for real-time updates. They have completed a fire analysis and outlined strategies to manage the fire that may include options to use natural features and/or back burning to contain the fire.

NPCA, Others Sue EPA Over Clean Air Act Reductions Of Regional Haze

A coalition of environmental groups, including the National Parks Conservation Association, has sued the Environmental Protection Agency for failing to enforce the Regional Haze Rule required by the Clean Air Act. That failure could lead to "continued release of preventable haze-causing emissions that harm the health of our communities and blur landscapes at our most scenic national parks and wilderness areas," the groups maintain.
